And depending, (on if you use added weight), you have more length to make more lead (or substitute) wraps on a longer hook. The extra length gives you a bit of added weight to the fly, and the added materials used for the extra shank length, will soak up more water enabeling the fly to sink easier/faster. Although a regular streamer hook will usually do, without the extra pending on the size of the fish your after. Hi Mike, most tyers use a streamer hook for these ually with a couple xx's involved.in other words extra, extra long, or at least with one x, or extra long. I'm bettin' it'll be nice to have no phone service, no t.v., no internet, etc., etc. Still, i can't wait to hear bout what you would suggest. Wish i could get your replies before we leave. We are pullin' a trailer behind the bus, but that's for "Gear." We'll see. I'm not sure yet as to if we'll be allowed to take tyin' "stuff" as there is only so much room in the bus. We also only have bout a couple dozen flies with us that are designed for Pike. We have a few other rods or so with us, but all are 6/5/4 wts. with us, as we were not plannin' on this trip when we left home. The last 235 miles of the trip is on a dirt road.so it's a remote location. Still, i'm very interested in hearin' bout your experiences. So i'll have to read any responses post trip. Unfortunately i won't be able to access the internet for the next week or more. This is our first such trip and i'm just lookin' for advice. They've been goin' for 11 years in a row. Guys, my wife and i are headed up to deep north Saskatuwane(sp?) for Pike in the mornin'.with a group of 8 other people.
